September 5, 1997 -- I won't even pretend to have a reason I haven't written in a while...I'm just lazy.

But here I am...in a new place. In the past thousand years since I've updated, I moved up to my apartment in Binghamton. I started school on Tuesday this week, and I've walked or ridden my bike up and down the hills to SUNY Binghamton about 12 times, been driven 3 times (never for a class though!). It hasn't rained too much (knock on wood) and walking has been okay. But life's looking good, and I can't complain. I'm just in such bad shape that I huff and puff the whole way. But that'll be over eventually...I'll get in shape.

My room rules...big bed, cool posters, big closet, and a huge lime-green bean-bag chair. It kinda looks like a big turd. ;)

But, the real reason I'm writing is the state of RAM in my computer. I have 16 megs right now...and for my computer science class I need to run Microsoft (Grrr...) Visual C++...which requires 20 megs. So, you say, get some more RAM... Okay. I called Mom and told her what I needed to do, and she authorized me to use the almighty Visa to purchase the amount of RAM I have been debating buying for a while. You see, I have an Acer Aspire...it has 4 slots for memory, it takes simms in pairs, and I already have two eight meg chips. Here's where it gets fun--it's upgradable to a maximum of 128 megs. That's four 32 meg simms for the slower people out there. Now, I have two empty slots, and I could just get two more 8 meg chips, or even 16 meg chips...but then if I ever wanted to upgrade further I would have to dump them and buy bigger chips. It is my belief that anything less than 32 meg chips is a waste of time. Why buy now and get less, just to spend more money later? Guess how much RAM I'm picking up tonight at 5? Two 32 meg simms. For $112 apiece (for those of you who don't shop for RAM much, that's cheap...32 meg chips are usually about $180ish). ;) I got such a deal! Life rules. Oh...I'm going to have 80 megs in my 'puter. Can you say VROOOM!!!!?

For those of you who would also like scads of RAM for less than dirt cheap, check out Red Barn Computers. They rule.
