| February 23, 1998 -- So, it's supposed to snow tomorrow. We'll just see about THAT! Nah...I'd never taunt the gods of weather. We're going to get slammed. We're due. The winter's been too nice. I never got the chance to make snow people. Or have a snowball fight. Or make snow angels! Where's winter? Anyway. I had a lab today for CS 210, Logic Design. That's the class that Brian is my lab partner for. Basically, we play with little chips and wires and 'breadboards' and don't do anything useful but we learn a lot about these little chips. Today we played with a 4-bit full adder. I have determined that I will not get along well with this chip. You see, the diagram for the chip's inner workings was in the back of the lab book. The diagram was wrong. The whole class fried their little 4-bit full adder chips. The TA didn't know what to do, resulting in stress for me and the rest of the class. She almost had a riot on her hands when she gave me a less-than-gentle-but-well-meaning pat on the shoulder. Actually she karate chopped me in the side of the neck. She didn't mean too, she's a very nice person, but in my already stressed state it was enough to drive me over the edge. I bust into tears in the middle of class, then quickly packed up my bag and left the room. Brian met me outside the classroom a few minutes later. He made me feel better by spending the afternoon ranting with me about how nightmarish this whole class is and will be because the professor is so senile. I was a little embarassed but I got over it. Stress is normal, and while breaking down in the middle of a class is embarassing, it is effective stress management. I feel much better. But I have a test tomorrow in the OTHER class and I need to study! Wish me luck! |
