March 26, 1998 -- I had an urge to listen to music today so I brought my DiscMan to school with me. I didn't listen to it on the walk there though. I walked with Sumir, Walter's roomie, because he was leaving at the same time as I was. The day was just so beautiful I couldn't stand to hop on the bus. There were people playing softball and frisbee all over campus. I wanted so badly to not have class so I could join in, but oh well.

I might as well not have gone to class for all we did. Professor Su had a meeting with the Dean so we ended up staring at the walls and chatting for about a half hour of class. And he had gotten to class late too! Damn...it must suck to be a senile CS teacher. The whole class has it in for him. As far as I know everyone is complaining about him. I feel bad for him but he really is an awful teacher. We don't even have a textbook to read when he makes no sense. He's a really nice person, and he's really funny sometimes too, but damn!

So anyway, I spent the whole time Su was off somewhere not teaching us talking with one of the girls in my class, Marina, who also happens to be one of Ray's roomies (Check out his 2/15/98 entry). Also by pure coincidence, she's a math major with a CS minor, like Brian and another girl, Maria, in the class. Small, strange world, isn't it? Anyway, I spoke with her for a while, mostly about how nutty Su is and how annoying it is that we don't have a text book.

I asked her about Russia (she's from there, did I forget to mention that?). I told her how my uncle had described it, "Pretty much just like America except everyone speaks Russian." She said that was a good enough description. She said I should go visit other countries. I told her I'm still trying to go to Canada. I've never been out of the country. Then we laughed about Su some more until he came back.

It got me thinking. I should visit other countries. My grandfather worked for TWA for years, he could fly free anywhere he wanted. My Aunt Judy and my Uncle Marc live on a boat. Uncle Marc is French, as in born and raised in France. I've never even SEEN their boat in real life, only pictures. My mother's twin sister, Aunt Reggie and my rocket-scientist Uncle John are MOVING to Russia for three years...my uncle speaks Russian fluently and had been traveling back and forth for several months when his company offered to promote him to president of the Russian branch of the company. Wicked cool, eh?

But I've never been out of the country, unless you count Niagra Falls, which I went to and even managed to explore the city on my own a bit, but the only way the USA was out of my sight was when I faced north. We were supposed to go to Quebec, but for some reason didn't. If I save enough cash over summer I may try to convince Brian to go to Canada with me for some long weekend. He'll want to go to the Hockey Hall of Fame, and I don't mind. I just want to go somewhere.

After I cleared my mind of all urges to just start walking and not stop until no one was speaking English, I got something to eat and sat on a wall outside. I people watched and listened to my DiscMan...The Great Expectations soundtrack, which rules, by the way. I love doing that because it turns the whole world into one big music video. I sat there until the wind picked up and started to make it un-fun to sit there.
